Fiver's Journey: From Our Start to the 25th Anniversary Benefit

The Vision
Fiver was founded in 1998 by Tom Tucker, who after retiring from a nearly 20-year career at Lehman Brothers, was set out to create a safe space that would empower children. In 1996, he discovered the Keefe Family Farm, a 129-acre property near his alma mater, Colgate University. The Keefe brothers, determined to preserve their land for a meaningful purpose, sold it to Tom, who envisioned a camp where young people could grow and thrive.
Laying the Groundwork
In 1998, alongside construction of the camp, Tom brought together a founding board of directors composed of colleagues and experts in youth development and camping. At their first meeting in the farmhouse, the board established Fiver’s guiding principles: a ten-year program serving youth ages 8 to 18, focusing on character-building, teamwork, and decision-making—skills critical for success in school, careers, and life. These principles remain at the heart of Fiver’s mission today.
From Opening Day to 25 Years of Impact
By 2000, over $3 million was raised to transform the Keefe Family Farm into Camp Fiver, develop the program, and cover operating costs for the first summer. That year, the camp opened its doors to 254 children, offering a two-week summer experience free of charge. This marked the beginning of Fiver’s commitment to empowering youth and their families.
From the joyful smiles of campers in 2000 to the vibrant energy of today’s youth, the spirit of Camp Fiver has endured for 25 years, bringing excitement, connection, and unforgettable memories to generations of campers.
Join Us for Our 25th Anniversary Celebration
As we celebrate 25 years of empowering youth and their families, we invite all members of the Fiver community—alumni, supporters, and friends—to join us at our 2025 Annual Benefit on June 3rd. Together, we’ll reflect on the incredible journey we’ve shared, honor the visionaries who laid the foundation of Fiver, and celebrate the connections that continue to strengthen our mission.
This special evening will feature a tribute to our emeritus board members, who remain deeply connected to Fiver’s mission and legacy. Their dedication and contributions have built the foundation of the vibrant community we know today. We hope you’ll join us to commemorate this milestone, celebrate the impact we’ve created together, and look forward to the next 25 years of empowering youth.
